Day 1: Arrival

A representative from Kapama Game Reserve will meet you at Hoedspruit Airport, where you'll be transferred by road to the lodge. The flight from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit is included in the cost.

Late afternoon, you'll head out on your first guided game drive with your ranger and tracker in search of the Big 5 and other creatures. Included in your drive is a traditional sundowner stop, which typically includes snacks and drinks of your choice.

The afternoon drive leads into a nocturnal game drive, where the bush comes alive, and you get to spot nocturnal animals.

You return to the lodge at around 7 pm, with time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 2 :

Full Day in Kapama Game Reserve

Today is all about experiencing the Kruger bushveld and its incredible wildlife. Game drives start after an early rise between 5:00 and 5:30 am, where you'll have time for a quick cup of coffee and rusks.

Predators are more active during the cooler times of day, and the gentle light makes for some incredible photographic opportunities. The drive is roughly 3 hours, after which you'll return to the lodge for breakfast and enjoy some downtime indulging in the facilities at the lodge before lunch and a decadent high tea.

Late afternoon, your 3-hour evening game drive begins, where you'll go out in search of wildlife. You'll stop for a sundowner and take in golden hour before heading back for dinner and an evening in the boma.

Day 3 :

Kapama Private Game Reserve to Johannesburg

Today brings another early start with a final morning game drive, offering the chance for a few last memorable sightings to round off your stay. After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight to Johannesburg, where you’ll either connect with your onward international flight or continue your travels elsewhere.

Can I add any additional activities to my Kapama safari?

Yes. Your 3 day stay includes two safari activities, but you can add spa treatments, photographic workshops, bush walks, romantic sleepouts and activities like hot air ballooning in the neighbouring area.

When is the best time to visit Kapama?

The Kruger is a great year-round destination, but it does have distinct seasons and peak safari times. May to August (Autumn and winter) are considered to be the best time to visit because the bushveld is thin, making it easy to spot wildlife. During the summer, the bushveld turns into a lush paradise laden with green vegetation. Spotting wildlife can be tricky – but it’s a great season to spot birds. Shoulder season, April and September are quieter times and usually offer the best of both seasons.

Can I add in any extra days onto this tour?

Yes, you can add on extra days and add another safari lodge onto your stay. This is all bookable through our partner who will take care of your travel itinerary needs.

What is your child policy?

Children under 12 years are welcome at Kapama River Lodge, but if they’re under 6 years old they aren’t permitted on game drives. Kapama can arrange special game drives for those under 6. Children between 6 – 12 are permitted on game drives, but at the discretion of the guide.

Does Kapama have the Big 5?

Yes, Kapama has the Big 5! Guests can except to see leopard, rhino, buffalo, lion and elephant. Of course, there is also a wealth of other wildlife to spot while in the reserve.
