Kruger

Situated in the north-east section of South Africa, the Greater Kruger and Kruger National Park are two of South Africa’s leading safari destinations. The state-owned national park is the largest and oldest park in South Africa, and is ideal for day trips, budget-style accommodation and camping. The national park is popular with South Africans. The adjoining Greater Kruger is a 19 485 square kilometre protectorate forming part of the APNR. It comprises a patchwork of privately owned reserves offering exclusive and uncrowded safaris, and is unfenced (apart from Kapama), which allows wildlife to roam freely throughout. There are 508 species of bird and 148 species of mammal in the Kruger, which includes the Big 5. The Kruger is the place to see African wild dogs, lions, cheetah, and leopard. Popular reserves include the Balule Nature Reserve, Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, Timbavati Game Reserve, Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Manyeleti Game Reserve and Thornybush Game Reserve.
